Alpha province is one of eight provinces in Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
The 98th National Convention in Richmond Virginia The Alpha Province Convention was held the weekend of November 3rd at the Holiday Inn in Anderson, Indiana. Beta Nu Chapter in Winchester, Indiana was the hostess for the "Piecing It Together" theme. Barbara Armstrong was the convention coordinator. Laura Gullett of Beta Nu was the Province Chairman for the business meeting. The meeting was opened with the optional form of initiation which will be voted upon at the National Convention in Texas in 2007. Those officers taking part were Bobbi Ortegren, Bettie Lemons, Beth Wallis, Karen Allen, Cathy Stanford, and Marcie Schlosser. The initiate was Pat Mote, who serves as Province Expansion and Growth chairman. Cathy Stanford gave a moving memorial service for departed sisters of Alpha Province. Laura Gullett began the meeting with the Delt Opening Ceremony and Prayer. Twenty five delegates answered roll call, with four of them being first time delegates and 7 nondelegates were attending their first convention. The convention rules were read by Mary Lou Overmeyer. The financial report of the province was read with the amount of $618.30 for a philanthropy project. Two proposed amendments to the standing rules were passed. Karen Allen, chairman of the Philanthropy Committee presented Therapeutic Horseback Riding as the philanthropy project. Marcie Schlosser, of the National Philanthropy Committee, read her report and talked about grant recipients. Pat Mote, Alpha Province Expansion and Growth, gave her presentation. First, she read a speech from Ginger Benefiel, Director of Expansion and Growth. Then, she reviewed the history of the 16 chapters in Alpha Province. To encourage chapter growth, Pat passed out certificates to the following chapters- Beta Nu, Iota Mu, Epsilon Omega, and Theta. Diane Braden of the Delta Home Directorate gave a little skit about the Delta Home. She passed out a fact sheet of what the committee does. The luncheon-"Pieces of Pie" was a salad and sandwich buffet. The centerpiece was a Mrs. Wickes Pie. The afternoon session began with the passing out of form 41 which is to be copied and put in the President's handbook. The option A form of initiation was discussed. The workshop on prospect marketing of the chapters was discussed. We were given 10 minutes to discuss it with the people sitting next to us, afterwards we presented our ideas.• Publicity was also talked about with several good ideas being given. Laura presented the philanthropy awards. The total philanthropy amount was $73,465.12 and total hours of service was 16,093.65 for 306 members. Laura Gullett was re-elected Province Chairman for 2006-2007. The 2007 convention will be hosted by Delta Xi of Alexandria. Their theme is "Through the Ages." The 2008 convention will be hosted by Alpha Omega of Brazil. The traveling prize was won by Noblesville with 40% present. Chapter News (Updated 02/2007) Beta (Elwood) is making cheeseballs as their fundraiser for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. They decorated a Christmas tree for the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation Festival of trees annual auction. Other fundraising is a Longaberger-Vera Bradley Bingo Party in February. Theta(Greencastle) made cheeseballs. They also had a Holiday house tour. Lambda Beta (Indianapolis) work at High School football and basketball games. They also sell Abbot Carmels and Chocolates. Beta Sigma(Clinton) Other philanthropy include Humane Society, Little League, Food Pantry,and Adult Literacy Services. Iota Mu(Lynn) is selling nuts during the holidays. They also fixed baskets for shut ins. Eta Lambda (Noblesville) provide the Westfield Lion's Club with dinners. Their ongoing project is the Tooth Fairy which provides dental care for underprivileged children of Hamilton County. Alpha Omega (Brazil) was busy making 1500 cheeseballs. They also entertained three senior citizen housing units with a Christmas movie and goodies. Epilson Omega (Crawfordsville) is working on selling nuts and butter braids. They also had a pound of anything auction for their members. Lambda Nu (Mooresville) The 2,500 bears are given to local hospital's emergency rooms. Lambda (Union City) sold soybean candles. They also sold their candles at the Community Christmas in Harter Park. They also donated office supplies for the National Ectodermal Dysplasia Foundation. Alpha Omicron (Terre Haute) had a surprise party for Peggy Roloff, a 50 year member of Delta Theta Tau. Her daughter, Toni, has been a member since 1989. Beta Nu (Winchester) is selling nuts for their fundraiser. Their philanthropic Christmas project was providing eggs for Christmas baskets for needy families. Theta Lambda They delivered Valentine baskets to shut ins. Their philanthropy included a White Elephant Auction, plant bulb exchange, and scholarships. |
